My first publicly available app, RPG Pro Dice is a dice-rolling app for table-top pen and paper RPGs.
I grew up playing these games, notably Dungeons and Dragons, but others as well. I have found many dice rolling apps out in the marketplace, but I knew what extra features would make my version stand out. By making each of these features its own in-app page, it was easy to tailor the pages to meet the needs of hard-core RPG players.
I included a page with all the standard rpg dice options on it. Also, since a single die, the twenty sided one, is used by far the most in a lot of these games, I gave this die its own page, front and center. This way, a very simple click or tap without really looking at the screen will roll a new number. A very minor difference, but one with a large impact on usability.
I also included a complex page, for inputting formula involving multiple dice throws, with results summed, and modifiers applied. For example, roll 5 dice, all of 8 sides, add these results together, and finally subtract 3 from the result. Finally, I made a page for character creation, a process which can involve many dice rolls, and sorting out low results. This time-consuming real-world task is compressed into a simple click event.
To add a little vibrancy to games, I added sounds. When that all-critical 20 sided die comes up as a 20, one of four excited sounds plays as a result. Likewise, a roll of a 1 will cause one of four despair sounds. Any other results are accompanied by actual dice roll sounds I recorded. These sound settings can be configured in a settings page with slider controls.
