My first Android App, The Octavian Game is designed for Android tablets, and Amazon Kindle.
While I was busy developing RPG Pro Dice, my son Octavian kept asking me to make him a game. He was polite, yet determined and insistent. This game is proof that I follow through on my promises, and further, that persistence pays off.
I built The Octavian Game in Unity. You are Octavian, and you progress through four levels of play, jumping over pits and avoiding enemies. You can collect coins and treasure to increase your score.
The code behind the game is written in C#. It covers player movement, camera following, taking damage, tracking health, player temporary invincibility on getting hit, tracking player score, handling input controls, loading scenes, and the enemy AI. It is worth noting I designed this game for younger players, so I intentionally left the AI somewhat simple. As a design choice, the player has no attacks, so you must get past enemies by avoiding or out-smarting.
